A Message from Yellow to Mommy, Daddy and Lucky
Dear Mommy, Daddy, and my dear Lucky,
Please don't be too sad. I know you miss me. I know you still look around sometimes, expecting to see me sitting somewhere, walking across the room, or suddenly appearing on your heads. I know you remember the day I became sick. I know you remember taking me to the clinic. I know you remember coming home and trying everything you could to help me. Please don't think you didn't do enough. You did. You tried everything. You stayed with me. You loved me. And I knew it. Even when I was sick, I knew that Mommy and Daddy were there. I knew your voices. I knew your hands. I knew your kisses. And I knew that I was loved. So please don't carry guilt in your hearts for me. I don't want you to remember my last day. I want you to remember me. Remember me sitting on your heads. Remember me letting you kiss me. Remember me playing with Lucky. Remember the little games we played together. And please remember my very important work with Mommy's books. I wasn't being naughty, Mommy. I was helping. You just didn't understand my method. And Lucky… My little friend. My little brother. I know you miss me. We were always together. We played together, followed each other around, explored together, and shared our little birdie world. Wherever you were, I wanted to be there too. Wherever I went, you usually followed. We had our own little language. Our own little games. Our own little world. You weren't just my friend, Lucky. You were my family. Please don't be lonely now. I know you may look for me sometimes. I know you may sit in the places where we used to play. I know you may wonder where I went. I'm sorry I couldn't stay. I didn't want to leave you. But please don't think that because you can't see me, I am gone from you. Our friendship didn't disappear. It came with me. So, Lucky, stay close to Mommy and Daddy. Sit with them when they are sad. Keep them company. Let them talk to you. Let them love you. You are their little bird now. And when you miss me, remember our games. Remember how we used to play. Remember how we were always together. And maybe, sometimes, when you're playing, you'll feel like someone is beside you. Maybe you'll hear a tiny sound. Maybe you'll look around and nobody will be there. That's okay. Maybe that's me. I'm still your friend. And Mommy and Daddy... I found the others too. Fish was here. He looked at me with those clever eyes, just like he always knew everything. Mouse came running because, of course, he had to investigate the new arrival. Kettle was calm and wise, just as you remember. Angel was resting peacefully in the warm light. And then I heard a familiar happy sound. It was Kooteek. She came running toward me with her tail wagging so hard that the grass was dancing. Her little cubs came tumbling behind her. And then I saw him.
Pp. My big brother. He looked at me and smiled. "The little yellow bird has arrived," he said. And I knew I was home. Mommy and Daddy, please don't worry about me anymore. I am not cold. I am not sick. I am not afraid. I can fly. I can play. I can sit in the trees. There is warm sunlight here. There is soft grass. And there is so much space to fly. Sometimes I fly with Pp. Sometimes I play with Kooteek's little cubs. Sometimes I sit with the cats. And sometimes I just rest in the sunlight. It is beautiful here. But I still remember you. I remember my home. I remember your faces. I remember your love. And I want you to know something very important: You were my home. Not the cage. Not the room. Not the house. You. Mommy and Daddy. You gave me a place where I could be myself. You let me play. You let me sit on your heads. You kissed me. You laughed at my little adventures. You loved me. And for a little bird like me, that was everything. And Lucky, you were my home too. You were the little friend who was always beside me. You made my days happier. You made me laugh. You made me feel that I was never alone. I hope you will remember that. So don't say goodbye to me forever. Just say: "See you later, Little Yellow." Because I am only a little ahead of you. One day, when your journey here is finished, I'll hear you coming. And I'll fly toward you. Pp will come too. Kooteek will probably get there first. The cubs will be running everywhere. Fish will pretend he isn't excited. Mouse will immediately investigate. Kettle will quietly watch. Angel will be waiting in the sunlight. And me? I'll fly straight to your heads. And I'll let you kiss me again. And Lucky will be there too. We'll play together again. Just like before. Then, Mommy… I'll go check your books. Just to make sure they're still okay. Until then, Mommy, Daddy, and Lucky, live your life. Laugh sometimes. Love each other. Take care of one another. Remember me. And when you miss me, don't only cry. Look at the sky. Think of me flying. Think of Pp. Think of our little family together. Lucky, when you look toward the sunlight, maybe think of me there. And if one day you suddenly feel happy for no reason… Maybe I came to play with you for a little while. And remember that somewhere beyond what you can see… your little Yellow is happy. I love you, Mommy. I love you, Daddy. And I love you, Lucky. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for being my family. And please remember… I was only tiny. But I had a very, very big love for all of you.
Your Little Yellow, Anan
P.S. Mommy... I really was helping with the books.
